Max are delighted to launch MapChest with our first vendor – Cormelian Maps. Based in Cornwall, Cormelian specialise in original high-quality old maps sourced from auctions and fairs around the country. The Cormelian collection reflects the deep knowledge and enthusiasm of its owners, Graham and Gillian, who are constantly adding interesting, important or missing pieces to their cartographic puzzle.

Cormelian is a family business based in beautiful West Cornwall. We specialise in quality original old maps from the 17th-19th century. Founded upon a lifelong passion and delight in cartography, Cormelian has been a commercial presence since 2005. The aim is to provide quality maps, in the best possible condition, suitable for framing and display. A good map is not only a fine piece of art but can carry with it volumes of social and political history. They will delight not only the historian but enliven memories of childhood, special holidays and seminal moments in one's life. Not to mention the kudos of showing off a centuries-old map!

We have an ever-expanding stock totaling thousands of maps. These comprise a variety of county maps, every region of the world, town/city plans, battlefields, and polar regions. We always have examples by some of the most famous cartographers including John Cary, Robert Morden, Charles Smith, James Pigot, J&C Greenwood, Adrien Hubert Brué, Bowen, Moll, Blaeu, and many others. We are always searching and more maps will be regularly added to our stock. We relish the challenge of searching out particular maps upon request and we delight in a successful hunt!

For each original map sold we make a donation to Amnesty International of at least £1, increasing with the value of the map.
