MapChest offers high quality vintage maps in original and digital print formats. Launched in March 2019, our first collection has over 250 items, dating from as early as 1600s. Our collections encompass a range of cartographers and locations. A variety of sizes are available, starting at A4 and rising up to one metre in width. We also offer a bespoke framing service. By Christmas 2019 we expect MapChest to be the UK’s largest online supplier of vintage maps and related products.
Conceived, designed and managed by Max Communications Ltd, MapChest draws upon the experience and expertise of the UK’s leading provider of digitisation services to the Heritage sector. In business for over 20 years, and a proud recipient of the Royal Warrant for digitisation services, some of Max’s many high-profile customers include: Royal Geographical Society; Geological Society; Tate Gallery; Victoria & Albert Museum; Royal Collection; Courtauld Institute; Cartier; Fortnum & Mason and the Royal Academy of Art. Customers and vendors alike can be assured, therefore, that the digitised prints will be of the highest possible quality.
We will add new collections throughout 2019. Please watch this space for announcements. If there are particular maps that you would like to see, please go to the ‘contact us’ page and fill out a request. We will do our best to fulfil these requests as part of our selection process for new collections.

Max are delighted to launch MapChest with our first vendor – Cormelian
Maps. Based in Cornwall, Cormelian specialise in original high quality
vintage maps sourced from auctions and fairs around the country. The
Cormelian collection reflects the deep knowledge and enthusiasm of its owners,
Graham and Gillian, who are constantly adding interesting, important or
missing pieces to their cartographic puzzle.
Cormelian is a family business based in beautiful West Cornwall. We specialise in quality original vintage maps from the 17th-19th century. Founded upon a lifelong passion and delight in cartography, Cormelian has been a commercial presence since 2005. The aim is to provide quality maps, in the best possible condition, suitable for framing and display. A good map is not only a fine piece of art but can carry with it volumes of social and political history. They will delight not only the historian but enliven memories of childhood, special holidays and seminal moments in one's life. Not to mention the kudos of showing off a centuries old map!
We have an ever expanding stock totalling thousands of maps. These comprise a variety of county maps, every region of the world, town/city plans, battlefields, and polar regions. We always have examples by some of the most famous cartographers including John Cary, Robert Morden, Charles Smith, James Pigot, J&C Greenwood, Adrien Hubert Brué, Bowen, Moll, Blaeu and many others. We are always searching and more maps will be regularly added to our stock. We relish the challenge of searching out particular maps upon request and we delight in a successful hunt!
For each original map sold we make a donation to Amnesty International of at least £1, increasing with the value of the map.
