An old map of Great Britain and Ireland by the London Mapmaker John Cary. Fully entitled, "Great Britain and Ireland with Ye Judges Circuits" this piece was published in 1789 and is a hand coloured engraving. The sheet measures 55 centimetres in width by 45 centimetres in height. The printed area measures 47 centimetres by 36 centimetres. Born in 1754, John Cary was an English Engraver and Mapmaker who, after serving his apprenticeship, set up his own business in the Strand in 1783. His atlas, The New and Correct English Atlas published in 1787, becoming a standard reference work in England.
